Assistant Growing Manager

Greenvale AP is one of the UK’s largest growers and packers of fresh potatoes, supplying some of the country’s largest retailers and processors. We are looking to recruit an Assistant Growing Manager to support all growing operations at our Norfolk Growing hub (c400 acres).

  • Location: Norwich
  • Reporting to: Head of Growing (based in Scotland)
  • Salary: Competitive with vehicle and benefits
  • Hours of work: 08:30-17:00, Monday to Friday (flexibility required)
Main Responsibilities:
  • Planning of all crop production to suit procurements needs throughout the year
  • Sourcing and negotiation of suitable land and land rents
  • Planning and managing the purchasing and application of all agro-chemical and fertiliser inputs
  • Planning all field operations and crop irrigation
  • In conjunction with external contractors planning seasonal/weekly/daily work plans and ensuring all operations are carried out correctly.
  • Planning, managing and purchasing all machinery/vehicles and maintenance required, ensuring the appropriate records are kept up to date and machinery is kept in a safe condition
  • Planning and managing all crop storage from harvest through to delivery
  • Managing stock control
  • Delivering monthly reports monitoring crop yield and quality
  • In conjunction with HR, managing the supply of temporary labour, ensuring compliance with legislation and Ethical Trading Standards
  • Leading and participating in improvement projects
  • Ensuring that the growing business meets all crop protocols at the highest level
  • Co-ordinating and managing the purchase of parts and consumables for Growing equipment
  • Managing all statutory inspections required for compliance with company protocols
  • Assisting with all storage operations, box movements and lorry collections/deliveries
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Experience leading a team, demonstrating managerial skills 
  • Understanding of budgetary requirements and efficiencies 
  • Experience and knowledge of potato production operations 
  • Good communication skills and record keeping 
  • Full UK driving licence 
  • Forklift Certificates – Counterbalance essential, telescopic may also be required but not essential 
  • A team player and to maintain Greenvale’s high standards and reputation with landlords, customers and other parties 
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate would be desirable 
  • Pesticide Application (PA1, PA2 ,PA4G) would be desirable 
  • BASIS and FACTS qualifications would be desirable
